Nina is a ceramic artist creating under the name Aluminate Ceramics. Her work is inspired by the architecture of medieval churches, in particularly gargoyles and grotesques. Seeking a logo to mark her ceramic work and art shows, she wanted it to reflect this inspiration. We studied medieval architecture and grotesques, focusing on their stone carvings and lettering. This research shaped our plan to mix historical elements with modern style.
Nina was our guide, sharing the fascinating history and meaning of grotesques. Our first attempts to create a grotesque face for Aluminate Ceramics faced challenges. Then, we noticed a repeating face pattern in one of Nina's pieces that sparked our creativity. This discovery became the core of our design.
Working with Nina, we aimed to capture her artistic personality in a modern identity. The result was a set of logos featuring variations of the face pattern combined with the studio name in a contemporary but ornate font.
The identity needed to be simple, as its primary role is to stamp into the clay to identify Nina's artwork. We also created a complimentary set of marketing assets - business cards, invoices, and signage for art fairs.
Crafting Aluminate Ceramics' brand was a journey in blending history with modernity. Through teamwork and a shared love for art, Nina's vision was realised. The brand not only reflects her vision but also showcases the power of creativity and collaboration.
